  1. Like they need any more publicity. I'm sure she just wanted to have a go at the Religious Right a bit. Now the books are all done, I'm sure she's bored just lying around the pool. Pissing off your enemies always gets the blood flowing ..

But even then, we didn't see Lupin and Tonks really flirting, hooking up or any kind of relationship drama before they got married. It was just, yup, they're together. Aw, how cute. Totally from the kid perspective.

There was some drama during the sixth book, but not much. It was def. from the perspective of the kids.

This woman is seriously pissing me off with all the postscript revelations. The combined length of the books was what, a billion words? Seven volumes, thousands of pages...she couldn't fit the whole story in there?

Really, other than Snape's unrequited love for Lily, there are no great love stories here...why does Dumbledore need a sexuality? What next, Professor McGonegal a Nazi sympathizer? Uncle Vernon trafficking midget porn? WHat is the point of this?

Dumbledore: I'm going to teach you how to ride a broom today Harry.
Harry: But I already know how.
Dumbledore: Harry, jump aboard and you will learn how to ride.
Harry: Fine, but I won't like it [/grimacing]

If any of those things actually happened in the books, I'd have considered reading them. :D

    They didn't. Still your loss.

  8. That makes Dumbledore's life a Shakespearean tragedy. The man he loved he had to defeat (after he became the most powerful evil person [wizard] in the world) and then he lived out the rest of his days lonely and keeping the secret of his own longings and the elder wand.
In a way, it makes Dumbledore more heroic to me, because he faced that choice between right and easy and chose the right path and paid for it the rest of his life.

No. 1 - There is a tremendous amount of sexual tension between Ron and Hermione throughout the books.
No. 2 - Harry has his relationship tussles, between Cho, Ginny, the Parvati twins. Even Hermione confuses him to a point.
No. 3 - Tonks and Lupin have plenty of sexual tension. It's about the only adult romance the reader ever sees.
No. 4 - Arthur and Molly Weasley share a strong, romantic bond that goes well beyond sexual. It's about the healthiest relationship I've ever read in literature.
No. 5 - Dumbledore's sexual preference was ambiguous, and hardly relevant to tell the story. Rowling dismissed mentioning anything about it in her stories, which makes the announcement about Dumbledore being gay sound fabricated. But it is not out of the realm of possibility.
Bottom line is Rowling has no motivation for creating a buzz about her books at this stage in the game. She probably intended Dumbledore to be gay and did a poor job of telling that part of her story in her books. Or perhaps she thought it wasn't important to put it in black type, Dumbledore is gay, for the reader to understand her hints about his sexual orientation. It doesn't diminish the story she has written. Doesn't make it any better either.

  10. I would have guessed McGonagall ... but I guess she's just your run of the mill cat lady ... get it? Cat lady ... she can turn into a cat? ... nevermind.

We have a winner. I bet she never thought about it while she wrote.
