The Rockford route is not without its problems. On a Friday afternoon earlier this month, it took me an hour to get from Rockford to the IL-WI state line (normal time: 15 mins). If you hit the South Beloit toll during heavy traffic, prepare to crawl along at microscopic speeds.

But it shouldn't be that bad on a Wednesday afternoon, should it? :-\

I don't know about being a full hour, but you should definitely work some extra time into your driving schedule.

The Wenalway travel guide recommends exiting on state Route 11 at Janesville, then going east and picking up U.S. 12 at Lake Geneva. That road is a straight SE shot into the north suburbs of Chicago.

Then you can choose your road to cut over to the Tri-State.

    It's Wis. 11 at Janesville, not 50.

And U.S. 12 can be decent, and it can suck. If you hit it on a weekend, forget it, you run into all of the Illinois interlopers with their boats either going to or coming from Lake Geneva, Fox Lake, et al.

So it is. The map failed to mark a long stretch of highway in that area.

It is 50 going into Lake Geneva, though.

It's summer. See the lakes. Risk the boats.

Yes. Wis. 50 goes from Lake Geneva to Kenosha. And at I-94, it hosts the immortal Brat & Cheese Shop.

I once sat in some cow shit on an orchard on Wis. 50 when I was a kid. Just thought I'd share.
