Mr. Coleman is not amused by the slanderous misspelling.

So it wasn't Skynet that destroyed California?

This state is a mess...and it does seem like it's harder to approve a budget here than anywhere else.

It says a lot when all the bond-rating agencies -- the same people who gave A++ ratings to repackaged subprime loans made t opeople without a chance of repaying them -- give California such low ratings.

At some point, you need to come up with the money -- but only if you're a state government. The federal government somehow continues to ramp up the job market for printing-press operators.

    Sigh. . .

The Legislature finally agrees on a budget deal -- and then the Republicans vote to dump the minority leader. "Any deal you had with that man died with him" -- to quote Road Warrior.

    http://www.latimes.com/news/local/politics/cal/la-me-budget18-2009feb18,0,6961843.story

"California's government continued its grinding downshift toward insolvency, efforts to close the state's nearly $42-billion budget gap hit a new snag late Tuesday as Republicans in the state Senate ousted their leader.

Around 11 p.m., a group of GOP senators, unhappy with the higher taxes that Senate leader Dave Cogdill of Modesto agreed to as part of a deal with the governor and Democrats, voted to replace him in a private caucus meeting in Cogdill's office.

They chose Sen. Dennis Hollingsworth, a staunchly antitax lawmaker from Murrieta, as their new leader.

Cogdill's ouster could be a major setback to budget negotiations. Cogdill was a lead negotiator on the budget package and had committed to voting for it. Hollingsworth will likely try to renegotiate the deal, which lawmakers spent three months forging."

Maybe they should vote for a former wrestler instead.

The irony is that a guy who has made a career out of playing a tough guy has been such a weak leader in his own party.

Personally, he's learned to be more of a centrist. He agreed to the budget. You'd think maybe that would convince more people in his own party to vote for it? It might sound harsh, but he's the Governor, he's the leader. It's on him to get his people in line and find a way to get a budget passed.

BTW, one of the projects that will be delayed or canceled if there's no budget passed: Earthquake retrofits to bridges and roads!

They should've voted for Mary Carey.

They would have scored with that vote

At least then Californians would've enjoyed getting screwed by the state government.

The best news about the coming economic collapse of California is that it's squarely on the shoulders of the GOP minority...and I thought the national GOP was quickly becoming irrelevant, but thanks to the doom soon to hit California, the local party will be toast even more quickly.
