Media Relations Officer (June 17 deadline)

Position Summary
The California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) is hiring a Media Relations Officer. The ideal candidate for this position will possess a successful background in public relations and have knowledge of high school interscholastic educational athletics. A minimum of four years’ experience in public relations and/or sports information is a strongly desired qualification. Additionally this individual should have advanced technical skills including website maintenance, new media and videography experience.

Qualifications
• Demonstrated successful experience in the preparation, design, writing and editing of publications including but not limited to event programs, media guides, newsletters, promotional brochures and other print type publications, utilizing programs such as Illustrator, Photoshop, Microsoft Office Suite, Quark and InDesign.
• Successful experience in the preparation, design, implementation, and updating of a website using multiple content management systems.
• Demonstrated knowledge of social networking outlets and ability to utilize social networking opportunities to further awareness and initiatives of organization including the use of videography.
• Demonstrated successful experience in the preparation and distribution of athletic event summaries, press releases, media alerts, game results and awards.
• Demonstrated successful experience in game day management of working press area, media relations including leading press conferences.
• Successful experience demonstrating knowledge of interscholastic educational athletics.
• Demonstrated successful experience working under challenging timelines.
• Demonstrated successful experience working with members of the print and electronic media.
• Demonstrated successful ability to work with a wide range of individuals including student athletes, coaches, school administrators and the media.
• Demonstrated successful ability to speak clearly and concisely.
• Demonstrated successful ability to track coverage in print and electronic media and archive for future use.
• Demonstrated successful ability to proactively garner media coverage and create awareness around focused outreach efforts of the organization.
• Demonstrated typing/word processing skill of 50 WPM.
• Applicants must possess a sense of humor, as well as the ability to exercise discretion.

Background
The California Interscholastic Federation is the governing body of interscholastic athletics in California. 1,508 high schools are currently members of the State CIF. The State CIF conducts state championships in Golf, Girls’ Volleyball, Cross Country, Football, Basketball, Wrestling, NorCal Regional Tennis, Track and Field, SoCal Regional Soccer and SoCal Regional Boys Volleyball.
