This was freaking bizarre. Glad it seems she's ok ...

Kind of funny that ESPN put this sentence at end of the story:

"Cal Ripken, a Hall of Fame infielder, earned the nickname "Iron Man" for playing in 2,632 consecutive games during his 21-year career with the Orioles."

Are there that many people reading ESPN that don't know who Cal Ripken is?

That seemed out of place, to me, too. You probably could say "former Major League Baseball player Cal Ripken," and leave it at that.

Since Mrs. Ripken is, thankfully, now safe . . . is it too soon to speculate whether Jimmy McNulty or Bunk Moreland should be investigating this case?

Agreed. And if they're going to write that sentence, at least say, "a Hall of Fame shortstop."

But he did play some 3B. Just seems like the name "Cal
Ripken" speaks for itself on an ESPN site. No further detail needed.

And no shout out to Billy Ripken. Afterall she is his Mom also.

And now we know why Cal didn't make it to the Hall of Fame induction ceremony Sunday. That's really a shame. I hope she's all right, and I agre that Billy's name should have been mentioned, too

Since he never played for the Red Sox or Yankees, his games were never on ESPN.

That's terrible, just horrible... How can you post something like that?

Just because it made me laugh my ass off... :D
