BYU's leading rebounder Brandon Davies kicked off team for violating Honor Code

    To show how much times have changed, my grandfather was thrown off the Canisius College football & basketball teams for being married -- and he was a captain on both teams.

    They actually kept the marriage a secret for as long as possible, but once it was found out he was done.

    He turned to professional wrestling for a while and we have the clips from the local paper covering his first pro match. It talked about how his former coach and teammates were in the crowd.

    Funny to think about now.

    That also happened to Joe Savoldi, who was a star running back in the 1930s at Notre Dame who got secretly married (and I think, divorced too), when it wasn't allowed.

    Notre Dame found out, threw him out, he joined the Bears and played briefly in the NFL before quitting to make more money as a pro wrestler..

    Lance Alworth got married in high school in Mississippi. Ole' Miss wouldn't recruit him because the football coach didn't allow married players so he ended up at Arkansas.
