Buy your own laptop?

I tend to agree with that, which is why I've resisted so long.

Your shops actually give you laptops? Wow.

Understand, they have in the past, but the last one was used, with problems. I don't see these cheap bastards giving me a brand new $1000 unit anytime soon. That's why I've been thinking about buying one. It's good to see what the rest of the real world has to put up with. It just kills me to have to do it.

  4. Not always true. I use my own laptop on the job, and back in December the display died. Thankfully it held on through football season.

My ME got a new one and the IT guys installed it. I didn't pay a penny.

It has to be easy to read your copy on that.

Depends on deadline. Depends on length. Depends on many circumstances.
But, it's affordable. It's dependable. The BlackBerrys with the larger screens work better (i.e. not the Pearls) for viewing. The keyboard folds up. Collapses and will fit into a pocket.

Pardon my language, but that is fucking awesome, especially for someone like me who has issues carrying things on the road. I need this ... now.

I have had two personal laptops get beaten up on the road. Some dipshit stepped on the cord and broke the AC adapter. Asshole.

Anyhow, I go crankly this past season and got a hand me down. I added some memory, and got a wireless card (expensed) and also a working card for ethernet (the reason it was given to me, ethernet port didn't work).

So, now my beaten up oldie works pretty well, and never going to give it back.

Don't use your own on the road. If they are going to fly you, why should you have to buy a $1000 machine to do your work.
