The guy from the Washington Times to Zappa's right is such a douchebag. Zappa handled it perfectly.

And now we get to YF's real point on the thread. Yet another excuse to argue for cuts in spending on education.

Also, joe isn't far off. It is hard to feel sympathy for somebody when they are choosing to smoke. If you are struggling to pay your bills, that is even more reason to stop poisoning yourself and the people around you.

    Fine.

But, let one of these self congratulatory politicians cone out and say that when they raise taxes, or introduce a new lottery game, to raise money from the poor, and give it to public union employees.

I'd like to think YF is saying that there's a much better way to generate revenue. Cold-hearted snake isn't really part of his M.O.

And whether it's right or wrong, a whole lotta people would be in a strangling state of mind if they didn't allay their nic-fits every 20-25 minutes.

They don't want to raise actual taxes, and the middle class voters don't want to pay higher taxes.

So, they raise taxes on cigarettes, and everyone cheers.

Meanwhile, everyone argues that schools such due to poverty. And, here we are taxing the poor to pay for teachers' salaries and benefits. Hooray! That will make everything better.

The government's relationship with the tobacco industry, as a whole, is nothing but a giant, masochistic circle jerk.

Well, we could tax the rich, but that's illegal.

100%. They're equity partners in an industry they say is killing people.

Anyone think they want that business to go away?

Gambling is bad too, and we know it does not drive additional community investments, but hey, let's approve another casino license.

Look at how much revenue video poker can take in in one month, in one shitty bar in the suburbs:

Is it good to suck this much money out of the community?

Who cares. Politicians get more money to spend, and a new, big business, dependent on government regulators, from whom they can raise money.
