"You stand here convicted of ludeness, jackrolling, sneak thievery, chloral hydrating, sodomy, strangulation and corruption of the public good!"

  2. This will now be the talking point:
"The Democrats want to give (Name the terrorist) a trial!"
    Nuremberg, boys. Remember it.

Well, here's something from The Corner, a NRO blog:

    http://corner.nationalreview.com/post/?q=MDEzZGM4NjAwN2Y1NjU0MGY4ZWYxZWM5OTljMTI4NzY=

Pretty predictable right wing stuff, but this caught my eye:

"Now Democrats who oppose (and who have vociferously opposed) the Military Commissions will in effect be opposing the prosecution of the terrorists who planned and launched the attacks of September 11 for war crimes."

Any Democrats here that oppose the prosecution of the terrorists? Anyone anywhere?

    I do, JR.

But I hate America, cheeseburgers and warm, fuzzy puppies with every fiber of my socialist soul.

The discouraging thing about this news was the instant reaction from Washington conventional wisdom that by forcing Democrats to attack torture and defend the rule of law, Bush delivered a political masterstroke. In other words, the conventional wisdom is that a majority of American citizens are actively in favor of war crimes.

Bush: "Oh, and ... my fellow Americans? I stole the elections too, and there's nothing you can do about it now!"

  7. It's going to come down to Republican legislators -- Warner, McCain and Graham are my best guesses -- and whether or not they'll sign onto the let's-legalize-the-president's-crimes bandwagon. If they don't, then the political genius of this move drains away pretty quickly.
If we can try Goering, we can try Khalid Sheikh Mohammad.

Yeah Fen, but then ol' Mo will spill about how they extracted all that info from him and Bush's "interrogation, which is not torture" techniques will see the light of day. I don't think the Allies ever stuck a gerbil up Goebbels, but I could be wrong.

No question that you're right, but we ought to be able to convict KSM even with the torture-produced evidence suppressed.

Another midyear election strategem, courtesy of the GOP! We hope you enjoyed it as much as we enjoyed bringing it to you!

Guys, Bush should get a pass on this one. An investigation has shown that when he denied the secret CIA prisons, he had his fingers crossed. So lay off.
