I don't think the initial offer was extended to the newsroom. This one is.

Update: as far as I know, no one in sports is leaving. Can't say I blame them -- the BN may be one of the safest places left in this business.

Does anyone know what happened here? The deadline just passed.

Deadline was extended by a week, until March 6. Think there was supposed to be a big meeting with the Guild yesterday, though.

A minimum of $60K? Minimum? Gotta say, I'd think long and hard about that.

no shit. I'm not even there and I'm thinkn long and hard about it. That has to be the best buyout package to date.

    Well, not the best, exactly:

Supreme-Court-Whisperer Linda Greenhouse Takes $300K Times Buyout
The first deadline to volunteer for a buyout is on March 5 and Ms. Greenhouse has applied. (The Associated Press reported it last evening here.)
The buyout should be a good one—it's a two-year-salary plus a bonus since she's been at the Times for more than 35 years (she started there in 1968).
All in all, she said it would be about a $300,000 payoff (she makes $140,000 a year).
