USC is a private school, why would it take $500,000 for a bribe unless her kids are real dolts.

Well their parents were willing to pay $500K in bribes to get into USC, so the dolts don't fall too far from the tree.

One has no sympathy for the kids who got in this way if they knew what was going on, but according to the indictment (https://www.justice.gov/file/1142876/download), some parents went as far as having other people take SATs or ACTs for their dim-witted kids without the kid knowing. Learning only when your parents get indicted that they viewed you as too stupid to get in to college on your own has to be something of a gut punch (although on the other hand I suppose it does show that their parents cared about them).

    Capitalism

If schools wanted to raise money put an acceptance on auction at Sotheby’s.

Let 5 kids in via auction at Harvard and raise $5000000

Well, rich folks have been gaming the system since the beginning of time.

    Actually, gaming is the system.

Used to be you donated a library or a laboratory or a pool is the difference. Now it's straight up cash money.

Turns out William H. Macy knew all about it (I don't know why he wasn't indicted along with Huffman), and is on tape discussing the scam. I have to assume he did the negotiating in his Jerry Lundegaard voice from Fargo - "I'm working with ya on this thing!"

When I see William Macy I thought she was married to Maude's husband.
