    If she could produce some approximation of Bernardini, that wouldn't be such a bad thing, and his early stuff has been pretty good (Stay Thirsty, To Honor and Serve, etc.).

    Wouldn't . . . and Bernie seems a pretty good choice by the Mosses. Still, great mares virtually never throw anything resembling themselves . . . breeding's such a long-term proposition, though horse-consuming owners/sales customers continue to be burnt and disappointed frequently, when they put down their money and expect immediate gratification . . .

    With the proliferation of syndicates and LLC's nowadays, the smart ones are the ones who take great pains to warn their potential owners ahead of time that this is a highly speculative venture. Not only is there no guarantee of a return on your investment through earnings (assuming the horse even gets to the track), but the likelihood that the horse will turn into a money pit because of unforeseen vet bills, etc. is always a possibility.

    It's like when you go to the track to bet -- don't exceed your budget of disposable income.
