My thoughts are "good" but also qualified by the next three grafs of the article that you did not quote.

Great news. Ironic that the beaches are clean but tourism is way down on problems that were anticipated but did not seem to materialize.

Despite BP being unable to cap the well for weeks upon end and a slow federal response, the Gulf appears to be healing itself quite well.

So, while it's clearly been a tragedy for the families of the 11 killed, it doesn't look like it's going to be nearly as bad as the press has lead us to believe.

If BP had to put up $20 Billion, how much should the media have to put up?

It's the hysterical press reports that have kept tourists away.

The biggest ongoing tragedy would be if we shut down off shore drilling for any meaningful period. That will kill the economy of much of that reason.

Even under the worst circumstances, if we had a disaster similar to this one, we now now how to cap the well. We know what kind of response is necessary to skim, burn and collect the oil and otherwise contain it before it hits the shore.

This is going to turn out to be a blip on the radar.

The next one -- if there is a next one -- won't even register.

Let's get back to work folks.

    Drill Baby Drill!

    Whatever.

    http://motherjones.com/environment/2010/07/methane-impact-gulf-oil-spill

In the 10-mile radius around the well site, research teams have measured methane levels in the water averaging 100,000 times normal levels. Kessler says levels are up to a million times normal in parts of the Gulf immediately surrounding the spill site. "This is the highest concentration I've ever seen in ocean waters, easily," says Kessler. He believes it could take years—possibly decades—for the gas levels in the ecosystem to return to normal.

    Well, that's convincing science.

Check back in a little while. The earth is healing itself.

Oil naturally seeps into the gulf every day.

Sure it will be concentrated for a while after the spill. But it will be back to normal soon.

And meanwhile, those beautiful, white sandy beaches sit empty thanks to media hysteria.

You never read the links, do you?

People don't want to "go to the beach" when they can't swim in the water.
The fact is, you shouldn't swim in the water right now.
It's not safe. There are chemicals in the water.
We just went for a week to the white, sandy beaches of Alabama.
    We didn't swim.
    It's not safe.
The media is, for the most part, reporting the facts ... or have I missed something.

    Well, that's definitive.

Different story in most of the Florida.

But the beaches are still empty.

I read the links. The references to beach safety were scant.

Who said they were posted in reference to beach safety?

That took five seconds to find.
