Yeah, and 80-90 percent of high school coaches are usually worthless to quote, too.

Well, I don't know the guy, but he may have felt the need to do some detailed groundwork. The previous sports editor, a good guy who nonetheless promoted the notion of not quoting young athletes, is now the editor. So maybe that played a role.

John's a nice guy -- I ain't him -- but that seemed a little more bush-league than I would have expected from Oxford.

Read almost like what the sports editor at a high school paper would write.

That might well be the case. But how often do you hear readers go, "I don't read the Podunk Times. It doesn't quote the kids"?

Making changes is all well and good. But this isn't a re-design. The readers still know where the information is located. It's just more subject to a quote or two from an athlete, and that's not worth a rambling of that magnitude.

In other words, like the rest of the population.

I think you should talk to prep athletes.

I was revving up a smart-ass response to this story, but it completely sapped my will to write. But I liked how he wrote EAGLE in all caps, as though he were screaming it. Maybe it's the Screaming Eagle
