Braylon Edwards is a Jet

It's possible. Maybe he just needs a new situation and a coach who will give him a good kick in the ass, which Rex Ryan seems very capable of doing.

I was using a bit of hyperbole comparing Edwards to Nate Washington. Edwards has shown he can be a No. 1 with what he did in '07 while Washington has never been more than a No. 3.

That said, they were pretty much the same type of receiver last year -- big, fast guys who still manage to disappear on occasion and drop way too many passes. Edwards caught 55 passes for 879 yards and three touchdowns in 2008, not that much of an edge over Washington (40 for 631, 3 TD) when you consider that he was his team's top target and Washington was the No. 3 man on the Steelers.

Washington has more catches (14 to 10) and more touchdowns (3 to 0) so far this season.

Would I rather have Edwards? Absolutely. Is the gap between him and Washington as wide as it should be? No, and it won't be unless Edwards gets his act together.

The guy needed to get out of Cleveland. No doubt about that. But the change of scenery doesn't guarantee that he will suddenly get his ass in gear.

Could Edwards have saved the '08 Browns by himself? Of course not. No single player can do that, certainly not a receiver. But to absolve him of blame is ridiculous. He sucked from day one, which is one reason that defenses were able to solve Anderson. It's hard for a quarterback to play well when his best receiver is dogging it.

Don't forget that Nate had Big Ben throwing him the ball and the Browns had Ken Dorsey starting the last however many games, scoring 0 offensive touchdowns after November 17.

Edwards is the type of player who has the potential to push the Jets to the Super Bowl either this year or next.

Not many of those guys are on the market, and none at a price of a middling WR and special teamer.

If Edwards craps out, the Jets have lost next to nothing.

It was mutual sucking. I'm not saying Edwards is completely to blame for Anderson falling apart, but he certainly deserves a part of the blame.

True, but you are still looking at the difference between a team's top receiver and a guy who was really the fourth or fifth option (behind Ward, Holmes, Miller and sometimes even Mwelde Moore.)

Definitely, but I don't think Hines Ward and Santonio Holmes could have caught a TD pass in that Browns offense. That's how bad it was by year's end.

Actually, it's more of an opinion. There were other factors in play, such as their opponents.

It also doesn't absolve Edwards from his share of the blame for last year.
