Bravo to the LAT for the time & $ spent on one helluva story...

    I think, in fact, it added to the story -- it was like being shown her e-mails, or reading them over her shoulder as she typed, or having been cc'd on them. I thought it was a nice touch.

    The reporter hit a home run. I enjoyed the weaving of the story and "The Life of Pi." You can also tell the reporter is a big fan of Hemingway's style of storytelling.

    There were also grafs that read as easy as Steinbeck. The flow was beautiful, like the rolling waves at low tide.

    I agree on this. I did pause and go back over the quotes but all I thought was "Oh, yeah, that's email writing." They were clearly her words, written by her, which is about as good for quotes as you can get.
