A .735 OPS in 60 at-bats isn't that bad for someone like Betemit. More than anything, he's learning to become a good hitter. Two years ago he sucked balls.

  2. Betemit was a Yankee?

I honestly can't understand this one.

Betemit had been the Braves' top prospect for years, and as soon as he started to play up to his potential, Schuerholz dumps him for a middle reliever and a utility man.

Ray and Paronto have done pretty well this season, and McBride has become the left-handed specialist. I was more than content with the Wickman deal because it moved Ray back to a set-up role.

But getting rid of Betemit (who, in my opinion, has easily out-played Giles this season) is something I think the Braves will rue for years to come.

They didn't trade for Manny Aybar.

Lou: Yes, we've seen him on the road. Only one of the games was in Turner Field. I saw him hit one in RFK that would still be moving if it didn't slam into a wall. Hell, saw him hit one there last year, too. He only has one fewer HR at RFK than at Turner? Wow.
