Boy, this Beckham thing started out to be a disaster. It's been great since.

Looks like this Toronto cop likes Beckham's arrival.

That game was sold out before Beckham signed. In fact, all TO games are sold out; Beckham on hand or not.

Actually, in ESPN's early days you'd get more soccer on that network than you do now. Of course, this was before it landed contracts with MLB, NFL, NBA and NASCAR.

I think even the least informed fan understands injuries and why people don't play as a result.
Plus, these are still exhibition games, right?
So to call it a disaster, it probably wrong.

He's missed one exhibition game, three (I believe) SuperLiga games (which is a new tournament, separate from MLS league play), and one MLS match.

As others have pointed out, the Toronto match last weekend was going to be a sellout anyway. This week's games, against DC United and New England, are different animals. DC sold out RFK Stadium for the Galaxy game, and the Revolution capped sales at 30,000 for Saturday -- and forced people to buy a four-pack (i.e., four games) to get tickets for the LA game. So if Beckham doesn't play in those matches, the PR problem will be much greater than it was in Toronto. Now, when Beckham missed a SuperLiga game in Dallas, the FC Dallas brass offered fans a discount for Beckham's next visit to Frisco. That might not be a bad idea, especially for the New England management.

This "disaster" has drawn what looks like 70,000+ to Giants Stadium tonight ... probably the biggest crowd for a regular-season (i.e, not international) soccer match at GS since the glory days of the Cosmos 30 or so years ago

And what's more, the man has delivered. I can't wait to see the game on my DVR later.

Am I missing something or is there just one photo on the AP wire of this historic event?
