"Her killing was part of yet another bloody summer day in Chicago. In a 12-hour period, at least 22 people were shot. "

If those 22 people were shot in a school, movie theater or a suburban mall it would have
been at least a one week cable news hand-wringing.

Well yeah. The victims would have been white. You can scare soccer moms with dead white kids.

Dead black kid in the inner city make soccer moms want to vote for "law and order" politicians.

    You know what's mad?

    22

And the weekend before, I believe, 40 were shot over the course of 14-15 hours.

True, and the Stephen A. Smith reference is noted.

But, if we're going to talk about/cover/worry about the gun problem, this is where it is. Instead, we cover the random shootings that make up a miniscule portion of gun violence in America. And, we ignore the vast majority.

As far as Obama goes there are probably 5 teens killed
weekly in Chicago that could have looked like his son
yet you don't hear him speaking out against Chicago
gun violence because it might hurt his buddy the mayor.

The other time it's come up is in the discussion of the success of
NYPD police tactics which greatly curbed gun violence in NYC, but have
    come under criticism from some

The president's concern is as fake as his Chicago accent.

The Trayvon Martin case got national attention because it was "every mother's worst nightmare".

African-American moms are in constant terror that their young son will be hunted down and shot to death by a white (Hispanic) man. It consumes them.

Surely this is what the African-American moms on Chicago's West Side worry about most.

I'm glad that the media ignoring these incidents hasn't ever stopped you from finding links to media coverage of these incidents.

    Local media.

You know there's a difference. Don't try and pretend there isn't.

And, these cases are not being held up as "teaching moments" or as triggers for a "national conversation".

Charles Blow hasn't written a column. Al Sharpton hasn't chimed in. The WH Press Corp hasn't asked for the President to comment on them.

MSNBC hasn't gone wall-to-wall. Rallies aren't being held for the victims.
