Does this one count, or can we just ignore it since it's Chicago:

I'm never quite sure what this has to do with Obama when YF starts these threads. OK, he lived there. And didn't he live there because it was a rough place he thought he could help? (Be cynical all you want. I'm sure he was driven by idealism, in part, in his 20s. Most of us are.)

Is it your working theory that people here don't start threads about Chicago violence because the president lived there once? That feels like a stretch.

It's more about leaders in community not willing to speak out
against inner city gun violence. It first came up in Trayvon Martin
discussion and then some of the mass shooting incidents that cable
news became fixated with. In total Chicago averages a mass murder
a month but I've yet to see Anderson Cooper or Rachel Maddow broadcasting
    live on Cicero.

    OK, that's fair.

Part of the reason is fear of painting black people in a poor light, agreed.

Part also is that violent crime in inner cities has decreased in the last two decades.

Obama doesn't factor into this at all for me.

It's all about what draws the interest of the national media, national politicians, and the gun grabbers on this site.

Without a California co-ed as a victim, or a father blaming the NRA for his son's death, it's just not interesting.

And, I'm not sure why "it's gang related" is some get out of jail free card for some to choose to ignore the story. We don't dismiss gun incidents because they are "mental illness related".

    Why the brush off?

I'm also not sure that all seven victims were gang related.

I'm also sure this girl, who was killed earlier in the week was not in a gang, but her story didn't get picked up nationally either:

The other perception is that as the victims are usually bangers, too, they were "asking for it."

    Elements of provocation, etc.
