    The deceased got away with shooting a friend in 1999, likely thanks to his slumlord father's influence peddling.

    Ya know, we can't pick our parents, we can only make due with what we can. I'm not saying this kid deserves more sympathy than the scores of others who die via overdose per day, but I see no sense in piling on or even saying it should have been someone else. There but for the grace go I.
