    The last great reason to preserve two-newspaper towns: So someone is there to quickly pounce on and publish the competition's latest memo about layoffs.

    Well, to be fair, I read the same story ... on Boston.com, the Globe's site, including the memo.

    Aw, just gallows humor. Not picking on or blaming anybody. Fact is, the papers that do the buyouts and layoffs ought to do a better job of reporting them themselves. They sure as heck would if it were another business in their market.
