I've been reading it the last few days, and I have to say, as most of the reviews do, that it is absolutely terrific. It's about modern parenting, and the effect that kids have on parents in a world in which most middle-class families have two working parents, in which the Internet amplifies the pressure on parents - particularly mothers - to be perfect, and in which fathers are expected to be involved rather than coming home and pouring a Manhattan while wife puts dinner on the table and does the laundry.

It's a work of journalism, so the writer spends a lot of time embedded with real families, weaving the reporting with relevant social science, psychology, and so forth. At least once a page, I have to look up while I stop and think, "Oh, my God - that's us!"

    Highly recommended.

Agreed on the reviews. Wish somebody had done this 20 years ago.
