More idiocy from the Zell-ified ChiTrib: http://www.tribune.com/pressroom/releases/2008/06162008.html

A contest winner gets hired to do local sales:

Bless you, Sam Zell. If boobs and shorty shorts can sell that crap at Hooters, maybe it can save the newspaper industry!

I think the news of the hire and the professional work history of the hire are real, but nothing else in that release is. I've seen a couple of their other releases announcing new hires that adopt a similarly silly and irreverent tone. Most of that would be blue-texted on here.

Yeah, well, that's certainly a way to gain respect in the industry.

Here's the thing: If people actually like Zell and what he does, they'll say this just goes along with his attempt to shake up the newspaper culture, and that it's fine to not take yourself too seriously, that it shows a sense of humor, etc. Unfortunately, most in the biz don't like him. And the things he has done in regards to the product and the people since taking over haven't won him any popularity contests, so this just gets looked at as retarded.

Oh, now I get it ... hee, hee, ha, ha ... The Trib has a sense of humor and this is all just fun and games.
Was the Dick Head who talked about byline counts being funny?

    I don't get it.

Was it a completely fake release?

    A real release phonied up?

A real press release with wacky, sophomoric humor?
