When Bob Knight arrived in Lubbock, he was greeted by a loud reception at United Spirit Arena.

There will be far less pomp and circumstance as he steps aside.

Knight informed Texas Tech athletic director Gerald Myers Monday morning that he has resigned, effective immediately.

Knight son, Pat, the head coach designate, will take over for the remainder of the season

Just a guess: a health situation.

If it were some kind of misconduct/firing/Knight quitting in a huff situation, Pat wouldn't be taking over.

Obviously, we'll have to see as the details come out, but that's my first guess.
