WWL reporting that the 'Noles have re-upped Bobby Bowden's contract through 2008. That could be the second-worst coaching mistake in the past three days. The worst was Syracuse saying that Greg Robinson would be back next year.

It's funny. I never cared for him, but more than disliking him now, I dislike the idea that he gets a pass for being a sub-par recruiter and coach (which he wasn't always, but is now) because he's Bobby Bowden.

They would piss off 75 percent of the big-money folk if he went overboard now. Who would/should they bring in?

Bowden and Paterno are determined to keep going until one of them croaks. Then, maybe then, the other will call it quits.

Actually, I think that might be part of the reason they're sticking it out. They were both around for long enough of Bear Bryant's days to see him die months after retiring. In both JoePa and Bobby Bowden, they might feel they have to keep coaching.
