So Inky, if the ladies in the festivities want to be satisfied, should one look for the little man in the boat?

Last summer I was cruising with my cousin on his boat on the Colorado River and he dialed up the local rock station and the first song out of it was "Boys Of Summer" by Don Henley.

It's one of my all-time fave songs and maybe it's corny I don't know, but it sounded fucking great at full blast that day.

What makes good "boat music?" Is it like "beach music," another term I never understood?
If I like a song on land, is there a chance I won't like it at sea?

I can't imagine Martha and the Vandellas (other than Heat Wave) moving me no matter where I am, but Jimmy Buffett sounds good on now as he is (in my dry living room) and, I assume, on a boat.

Just make sure you play "Boat Drinks" when you are out there.
    Row Row Row Your Boat.
    Michael Row The Boat Ashore.
    I'm Your Captain.
Drowning In A Sea of Love.
    Didja Ever See A Fishy?
Reelin' and Rockin' (get it? Reelin? Oh, never mind)

More as I think of them.

bonus points - can anyone name the Vandellas? Or two Supremes? Diana Ross doesn't count.

Modster, I think it's more of a mindset than anything else. When you're out on a boat, or at the beach, certain songs click better than others. To me, at least, they do.

I'd like to know where you got the notion to make a boat CD without the Doors' "The End." My last boat trip, from Block Island two months ago, was like something out of "Apocalypse Now."

Add the Waterboys' "Strange Boat" or "Ship of Fools." Or the Pixies' "Stormy Weather."

You can't go wrong with Dick Dale, either.

Ah, yes, the king of the surf guitar. Good call.

Looking for something obscure, dig up "Boat Train" by the Pogues.
