I never knew any different, either. I went to high school where everyone worked for the football coach in the summer. Black dudes, white dudes, Mexican kids. Know where we worked? The watermelon fields.

So, I guess I'm black because I can get down on some fried yard bird and watermelon. Great Fourth of July.

My first wife is black and I'm white. When we got invited to a barbecue, she would ask if it was a black people barbecue (chicken, ribs, hot links) or white people (hamburgers and hot dogs).

I much preferred the black people bbq.

We probably had more fried chicken and watermelon at my parents' house then hers.

That joint was profiled on Mind of a Chef, aka Lucky Peach magazine for the teeveee, and it made the chefs hallucinate from the heat.

I like Gus's, almost ate lunch there today, but she thinks it is is too spicy.

Can someone give a Canuck a traditional recipe for Southern Fried Chicken? I'm serious and I'd appreciate it. Thanks

I never got the watermelon stereotype, ever. Stereotypes aren't as racist as they are just plain stupid.

But black people and white people both love fried chicken. Especially me. Cornbread, too. That is a Southern thing that transcends race.
