Trailing team attempts game-winning field goal. It's blocked behind the LOS, but not covered. Team that blocks the kick celebrates and runs off the field, other team picks up the live ball and scores winning touchdown.

Very similar to the Miracle in the Mud Division III playoff game in 2000 between Linfield and Central. Central trailed by 3, kicked a FG, blocked, players run on field, Central guy emerges with ball and scores.

This also happened in Tecmo on occasion as the kicker would scoop it up and suddenly turn into Usain Bolt when sprinting toward the end zone. My buddy lost a game when Nick Lowery did this on the final play of the game.

This was a "C'mon, man!" play on the NFL Network's Sunday night show last week.

I can't find it on the internet, but I'm remembering there was a similiar play last year in another high school game, which was a playoff game.

Columbia River defensive coordinator Ken Wiggins played at Linfield (1997-99) and started coaching at Columbia River in 2000. He talked about the Central game after what happened Friday against Skyview.

Yeah, I recall it was a long field goal to win the game, but it was well short. The team that was winning had a kid back at the goal line and he caught the ball. He ran toward his teammates in celebration, and threw the ball in the air. Kicking team picks up the ball and scores. Touchdown.

If you kick a field goal on third down and miss you can try again [/StephenASmith]

Always amazing how coaches at the high school and below level know of the rules. As in, they only know what they see on TV on Saturdays and Sundays (though this is a Saturday and Sunday rule, as well as a Friday rule).
