    Wah, wah, wah.

In a sidenote, Roy Jones cannot believe that the biggest travesty of the Olympics was ignored in this column: Roy Jones not winning the Roy Jones Olympic gold medal for the United States of Roy Jones.

In a second sidenote...this column is like a poster child against the use of arbitrarily chosen sample eras. I mean - how does Buzz blow the chance to toss the Berlin games into his rant?

Or Nancy and Tonya, for that matter.

I still contend that when the dust clears Dick Ebersole will shoulder most of blame for wrecking the Olympics as we know it.

The problem with the Olympics isn't what it is but what it pretends to be. It's a commercial, for-profit quadrennial sporting event that brings the world's top athletes from many sports. Fine. Stop cloaking yourselves in flags and holding yourself up as all that is virtuous in sports. It's unbecoming when everything starts to unravel around you, which it always does.

Are the Convocation Center and Peden Field big enough to hold the crowds?

The only way that China is going to get better is by slowly injecting doses of our culture. That doesn't mean that the day after the Olympics there is going to be free and fair elections. But the only hope is slow exposure and acceptance of our culture. The Olympics is at least one avenue to increase that exposure.
