They're into a guy named Vinnie for 30Gs. He said it's time to pay up.

rosa parks never had a column space to fill... far as i know... but that's just one of the holes in david's response. david, of course, wasn't in vegas.

Does this mean no violent behavior occurred? Should misdeeds be overlooked because those committing them have a raw deal? Pacman Jones is not among the 30 percent unemployed. And Dave, how do you see a new civil rights movement going down?

Vegas sounds like the time I was the only white guy at a basketball game with two historically black colleges.
I didn't feel safe. And while I wasn't personally threatened, it was very uncomfortable. Fights were going on in the stands and I put that in the article. The next day I get an angry call saying I had misrepresented the situation and that since no police reports had been filed, we should do a correction.
No one had been arrested, but that was because the cops threw them out and didn't bother with cuffing and stuffing them.
And we didn't do a correction either.

Vegas officials repeat lies often enough, they expect most to believe them.

And you though Goebbels was dead.

You mean to tell me a city dying to get a pro sports franchise is trying to pretend all the really bad shit didn't happen? No way.

    Sorry, forgot to include link:

I'm shocked the casinos aren't coming forward and providing details about all the fights that broke out. Or the fact that the Coach store at Bellagio was shut down for several hours after it was looted. Or that parties at the Palms and Tryst had to be shut down - not due to overcrowding, but due to fights erupting.

I guess the big question is ... does David Stern's reach extend to the the CJR?

Here's another hole in Zirin's argument. Maybe Whitlock can verify this, but I didn't think he was only criticizing the entourage of an NBA player or two or three. The way I read it, his take was that what happened in Las Vegas was symptomatic of a problem much more widespread.

Nobody's going to testify against Pac Man's cronies who did the dirty deeds. They witnessed it -- but they want to live.

Were I Whitlock, I'd love to be in this spot. What an opportunity.

    From that Zirin letter:

    Lost me right there.

I believe Zirin writes or wrote for SLAM.

Otherwise, not really sure why this 'Open Letter' really matters. Not that it shouldn't be posted, just seems like another Guy With A Webpage And An Opinion.

I've gottta believe that Vegas officials would be much more panicked if "nothing happened" all weekend during an All-Star event than if a bunch of thugs were running roughshod.

Jason, you've seen what taking these kind of stances did for Bill Cosby's career. When's the last time you saw Rudy Huxtable on TV? Be honest!

BTW, I've never before heard of Dave Zinn before reading this thread this morning. But I'll be he feels really empowered, in a horribly misguided, blame everyone else for your problems sort of way.
