Haven't seen this posted yet, apologies if it's a DB. Pretty interesting stuff here regarding his Randy Moss tweet and the effects of Twitter in general.

By his own description, Bill Simmons is an unbelievably lousy reporter.

His explanations are longer than Ragu's.

Interesting that it makes him nervous and worried to break news.

That's the rush most of us live for.

Kind of like saying you like popping the tops off beer cans but don't really like drinking the beer.

I'm about halfway through this column (I think), and I was just asking myself who in the real world has the time to finish this.

Apparently the millions that read him.

    Boom, is that even possible?

I haven't read Simmons in a while but here are my thoughts:

-Jesus, I skimmed through 2/3 of it and it was still too long. Ugh,
    - It was an interesting read especially since I caught his errant tweet exactly when he posted it. I was sitting in traffic with nothing to do but check Twitter. I @reply to him but he deleted the tweet.
-He doesn't even want to break news? Guy is weird. I'm not an ace reporter. Never have been, never will be, I write features, I write snarky stuff, but man, the few times I've broken something, it's been really, really cool.

Why is it weird that he doesn't want to break news?

If he was a career journalist, yes, that might be weird. But he's not. He's a guy who likes to write opinions on sports that involve pop culture references. It doesn't surprise me at all that he doesn't want to break news.

That's perfectly fine. If he doesn't like it, then don't do it.

It's not his job to break news. What's funny is that guys who aren't in positions where they need sources to help them break news sometimes have the best sources.

My God, this guy likes words, doesn't he?

I can't get through this. And I'm trying my hardest.

As others have said, he's not a reporter. That's not what he does.

But in reality, there are a hell of a lot of reporters out there who are terrified of breaking news. They are much happier letting someone else take the risk of getting it out there first. Being the only guy out there reporting a major story is a lonely place.
