    Re: Bill Selfish?

    1. He's making less than Mark Mangino, who 2007 aside has been a better-than-average coach. Given that KU basketball is THE sport on campus, its coach ought to be paid as such.

    2. He's making about $700,000 less than the highest-paid men's coach in the Big 12, Texas' Rick Barnes, who at $2 million annually has not won a national championship.

    3. He's not asking for KU to match Oklahoma State's offer, by any means. He wants more years, of course with more money -- $2.5 to $3 million. But it's not an unreasonable suggestion given the circumstances.

No, Bill Self is not selfish. But he's smart enough to know that the timing to ask for a raise couldn't be better than it is now. Nothing wrong with that, and every in Lawrence understands that.

That's not a money grab. Moving from Marquette to Indiana is a no-brainer.

Self going to OkSU would be a pure money grab, even if it's his alma mater.

    Bullshit.

TSP is 1,000% right on this one.

There's no reason to go to OSU except for money. none. Zippo.

OK then, I'd like to see him go to OkSU for the same exact contract he's got at Kansas.

Self's OK for a few seasons if things go south.

Do you think Oklahoma State would be OK with having the nation's highest-paid coach who can't match what he did at Kansas?

    Second W-B's comment.
Self played and coached at OSU. His wife was a cheerleader there. Both of their families are from Oklahoma. And the school now needs someone to come in and clean up a mess.
Money is certainly part of it, but this isn't like he's deciding between his current job and a place with which he has no connection.

So what you're saying is money aside, OkSt from KU is a lateral move?

  10. Re: Bill Selfish?

He's underpaid at Kansas. Your dismissal of someone's alma mater is bullshit. Would you rather work in Cleveland - your fabled hometown - for a lot of money or somewhere else for not so much money?

    Home is a significant factor.

Oklahoma really isn't far from Kansas. Especially when you have access to a plane that can get you from Lawrence to Stillwater in 45 minutes.

There's something to be said for working near home and family and your roots.

AND he's probably cocky enough to think he can build a program at OK st.
