    Who takes over?

Probably somebody outside the department -- they don't have any successors ready to take over. Martin certainly didn't cultivate any heir apparent; he ran the show pretty much on his own.

Lloyd Carr is an associate AD, a ceremonial position he moved into after his coaching stint, and his name was floated almost as soon as the Martin announcement was out.

Lloyd Carr has about as much chance of getting the job as Maurice Clarett.

Saw an article earlier today (think it was on that glorified blog, annarbor.com) that Carr says he's not a candidate for the job.

Miami, Ohio AD is a former Michigan player. He could be a possible choice.

Am I an idiot for not knowing who this is?

Oregon State AD. Ex-Michigan softball coach, then administrator for almost 20 years. His oldest daughter already attends Michigan.

Yeah, I would guess he'd be the guy too.

Even though he probably doesn't want it, they ought to give it to Bruce Madej.

Not as much of an idiot as Mustang was for suggesting him... No way DeCarolis gets this.. too many skeletons in his closet for his last stint as Canham's lacky... Jeff Long? Maybe, but his biggest thing was being assistant AD in charge of keeping Bill Frieder from gambling.

And last time Madej applied to be an AD was several years ago at his alma mater, Western Michigan. He even used Bo as a reference. Problem was, a couple of months before that, Bo ripped Western for being the "worst athletic department in the ENTIRE. United. States. Of. America" for firing Jack Harbaugh as football coach.
    Bruce didn't get the job.

When Frieder bolted for Arizona State, DeCarolis was the one who took Frieder's picture off the wall in the athletic department.
Bo ripped him a new asshole; the photo found its way back shortly thereafter.

Well I think that is a job that requires someone with integrity and honesty and the man with the most trustworthy background on campus is Rich Rodriguez.......
