    Make stuff up week after week and people will buy it?
    And I imagine lots of people clicked on the Favre photos Thursday.
    Is that the business we want to be in?

    Yep because the only populist topics are made-up stuff and dick pics....

    Plenty of topics are "borderline" sports news and are left out of (some) newspapers.

    *Power Rankings are (journalistic) garbage, but people love to read them. Having a small capsule on Tuesday Morning isn't breaking news, but readers love them.
    *Picks (Preps/college/NFL) are also just an opinion piece that has plenty of excuses why writers don't do them. Yet, people love them (and love commenting about them).
    *Fantasy "advice" (spitballing) makes a great Saturday/Sunday morning capsule--especially about local teams. Fantasy football is a huge market.
    *Mailbags are a favorite of readers and have a lot of value--talking about things you probably should of talked about anyway, but making the experience interactive.

    All of these things can be placed around your Pulitzer Prize winning piece about the effects of proper jock strap fitting for the local high school.

    If newspaper associations had awards for cheque presentation photos, my former POS rag would win it every year.

    It's absolutely ridiculous how often the staff photographers, already stretched to the limits, are assigned to take such pictures. For some reason, it's unacceptable to just encourage community groups, etc., to take their own pictures and submit them for publication.
