Big Lead Sports is not just The Big Lead. The main blog was sold to a company that became Big Lead Sports. That's what USA Today bought.

"Why are you calling the office? You should have already tweeted your first sentence to the Web! And don't forget to bring back video. And that last story sucked because you didn't have a minority source quoted in it!"

Does this mean they can put TBL's employees on furlough every quarter?

In that case I am quite skeptical that the blog was a large part of that deal, that Jason realized any further profits, or that there's any need for anyone to suck it as the OP says.

The subject line, and Ace's reaction, brought to mind a quote with a Russian accent: "Torpedo has acquired."

He made his money from the sale to Fantasy Sports Ventures, reportedly for about a million. Given that they re-branded as TBL sports after that, he may have had some stake.

Chris Russo is the former VP of New Media for the NFL. He was one of the founders of a company called Fantasy Sports Ventures about 5 or 6 years ago (they were originally focused on the digital aspects of the fantasy sports space.) They bought the Big Lead a couple of years ago (It was commented on on this board at the time), and I think they may have started going by the name "Big Lead Sports." By then they had become more of an aggregator of sports sites they were collecting.

Jason McIntyre likely doesn't see anything more from this deal, in addition to what he already made from the original sale of his site, although I don't know that for sure.

Coincidentally, another founder of Fantasy Sports Ventures, was Clay Walker, who before starting Fantasy Sports Ventures with Chris Russo and others, used to work in licensing for the NFL Players Association. Clay took a job as a VP at USA Today Sports in January. Now apparently he bought his former company.
