Somehow, I don't think this will turn out like naval action in The Sand Pebbles.

I saw the thread title and was hoping it meant Kurt Russell was finally making a sequel to this:

Impressive pull, especially on the first reply.

Apparently this has been going on for a while, now, with the mapping ships. Fairly stupid of China; the ships are in international waters.

We'll get Admiral Alley on the case and rock their world.

  8. I was thinking more of The Bedford Incident.

  9. If our ships are in fact mapping ships. Isn't China claiming they we are spying on them?
    Which isn't too far-fetched.

  10. I'd be more shocked if they WEREN'T spying.
Which reminds me of the West Wing episode about the missing US sub off North Korea.

    LEO
We don't talk to the North Koreans?
    ALBIE
And tell 'em what? You've got causus belli?
    BARTLET
Cause for war. Little thing called Latin. Albie, if we tell North Korea we've violated their
waters it could be interpreted as an act of war?
    ALBIE
It is an act of war.

If China is mad at us, playing battleships in the Pacific doesn't scare me.

    This does:
