So, when did Gannett by the DMN?

Good God. Can anyone else think of a worse-kept secret in Dallas? The Jimmy Johnson hire. That is just about it.

Belo would save mucho face at this stage by just cutting people loose from the get-go.

Hopefully, the well-prepared cut ones everyone would either have one foot already out the door, or would have their resumes squared away.

The unprepared ones ... at least Wal-Mart's hiring.

  3. GREATNESS...I've been describing them like that for years. With the exception of Sherrington maybe, they are Yates' suck up boys.

That's one blue ribbon committee you want to make sure you are on though and that you never leave the room.

  5. The countdown is on at the DMN, or what, up until now, had only euphemistically been known as the Belo Death Star. And sadly it looks like would-be survivors are fighting over places in the lifeboats. A source within the DMN newsroom tipped off an alt-news blog this week that three senior editors applied for the same position at the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. How did the staffer know? All three used the same newsroom fax, a situation made clear when documents came in for the three editors. So now the entire newsroom knows these three are looking to bail. Fortunately, the department heads won't find out, because they're sequestered with orders not to be disturbed while they play a high-stakes game of musical chairs.  ;)

Wow. Just wow. And the destruction of a great American newspaper continues.

Anybody got links to said Dallas blogs. Have a couple of friends there and would like to keep track of what's going on without bugging them. They probably have enough to worry about without me calling....

Holy shit, three senior editors? I can't imagine the pall that would create over a newsroom.

From reading D Magazine's FrontBurner blog, it looks like the buyouts are coming on the 9th.

Many in the newsroom are turning to the blogs just to get information on the buyouts (how many, how much) and the goings on in the upper levels. Most of the info may be rumor, but you'd think management would want to keep the laymen and laywomen at the News informed about all the buyouts.
