Big, bad, blood-sucking oil companies?

    As I pointed out in the previous post to this one, it's not like you guys are scary or anything. Sort of like tangling with old biddies at the fabric store.

    I like Reid's proposed legislation because it gets to the bottom of the profits. If the oil companies don't earn windfall profits, then they don't have to pay the tax.

    Proposed bill:

    -- Windfall profits tax for Big Oil
    -- Rollback tax breaks for Big Oil, use $ to invest in renewable energy
    -- Stop govt purchase of oil to put in reserve, which is 97% full
    -- Crackdown on gouging
    -- Crackdown on speculating
    -- Allow U.S. to bring action against price fixing by OPEC


    Naturally, Bush has vowed to veto.

    Guess what? There will be gas shortages, because there's no incentive for them to sell under those conditions. The oil-producing nations probably will make the decision for them, and sell to China and India.
