    It is worth knowing that Netanyahu occupies approximately the same place in the Israeli political spectrum that Richard Nixon did in ours -- used as a tool of power by many, but trusted by exactly no one, an opportunist's opportunist.

    This, of course, has always been the problem. And it goes back to the thought that if the Palestinians laid down their arms there would be peace in the Middle East, and if Israel laid down its arms it would be overrun and cease to exist.

    Too bad it's so utterly simplistic that outside of a partisan bullshit talking point, it has no relevance to the real world.

    Israel causes us a whole lot more grief and strife than the benefits of an alliance provides. That doesn't mean we have to turn our back on an ally, but it's a mystery as to why we elevate their concerns so much higher than anyone else's, including sometimes our own.

    That is not really true. Israel's military is courtesy of the U.S. And it isn't shy about using the weaponry. But it's economy stands pretty well on its own. It's GDP per capita (a measure of what they produce on their own) is on par with a lot of Western Europe and Japan.

    I think every time America asks Israel to redraw its borders to 1967, Israel should ask America to redo its borders to 1848. America loves to tell others what to do, but it's a lot harder to look in the mirror.

    I think any time Israel tells the U.S. to do anything, the U.S. should remind Israel that had it not been for the United States of America, the "Jewish Homeland" would consist of holding areas staked out inside of Nazi concentration camps -- and the inside of ovens.

    You'll take what we give you, and like it.

    The U.S. always has and likely always will support Israel, often much to our non-benefit as others have noted. So put a cork in the pissing and moaning.

    Are you forgetting that Israel only exists because of our support? And the only thing keeping them in existence is their military machine that we have funded and provided for them. I think we have a bit more authority to meddle in their affairs than they do ours.
