That's now arguably the two greatest anthem performances of our lifetime, both faked.

They better not tell me Ray Charles' "America The Beautiful" was pre-recorded too.

The only thing I remember from covering that Super Bowl. This may sound stupid, but I would be devastated if I found out that was pre-recorded.

And, yet, it was still the most genuine part of the whole day.

When does she record her live Super Bowl concert?

Well, that, and Paul Ryan jogging from Baltimore to the inauguration in 10 minutes flat.

So nice of Mitt Romney to miss the inauguration to spend the day with his wives

Still her voice, still her singing the song (unlike Milli Vanilli). Not sure why this feels like a letdown or betrayal to people.

Lip-synching makes the performance not seem so real, not in the moment, more of a studio-manufactured moment a singer is pantomiming to. Put it this way, Az: what did you enjoy more? Bandstand with its lip-synching or Midnight Special with its live performances?

I'd much prefer a live performance. Especially in rock. Or from great icons like Ray Charles or Ella Fitzgerald.

But I also wouldn't ask either of them to shout down the mid-morning January wind trying to sing the anthem live at a presidential inaugural.

And pop performers like Beyonce or Katy Perry or Britney now routinely pre-record chunks of their arena/stadium shows to cover the long dance sequences required of them.

I don't think it feels like a cheat to them.
