Beware in the skies ... TBF solos

I've mentioned here before that I've had my share of ups and downs (pun intended) in the cockpit over the last few weeks.

For some reason I certainly can't pinpoint, my instructor pilot decided today that I was ready for a solo. So, three takeoffs, traffic patterns and one landing later, voilà, I was done.

My stick buddy thought I was going to kill him, but we both survived. I'm glad it's over, but my IP says the hard work starts tomorrow.

    Yay!!

Congrats. May all your landings be smooth.

Uh, how do you take off three times but land once? Are we light a couple of planes now?

What we call "normal approaches" in the "pre-solo" phase of training are all done to a 3-foot hover. All my traffic pattern approaches were to hovers, and then I landed when I got to the "helicopter parking lot."

Since I've now solo'd (ed?), and the training kicks up a notch, all my approaches will be at much steeper angles and will terminate at the ground, rather than at a hover.

    Thoroughly confused, now?

Just reading 3BF's posts makes my stomach drop.

Good luck, dude. Be safe up there.

My stomach dropped a few times that first week, too. I was a little too nervous while on the controls a couple of times.

I'm pretty much past all that now, though I'm still a little heavy on the controls sometimes because I'm tense.

Congrats. Keep it between the clouds.

I'm only VFR qualified, so I have to keep it well below the clouds, for right now. In late August, however (when I get to instruments), I'll certainly do that.

Maverick: Tower, this is Ghost rider requesting a flyby.
Air Boss Johnson: That's a negative, Ghost rider, the pattern is full.

Yeah, but they can't fly backward.
