No, the ones they used in the early 80s were plain. The ones they used before that with a block black DETROIT on a gray uni with small numbers on the sleeve were way cooler.
The current ones with the script Detroit, blow.

The powder blue unis you're thinking of are the road uniforms they used during the same era that Dick Allen picture was taken.

I realize it's absurd to single out any part of the uniform for ridicule since it's grotesque on every level...

But what's with the collar? Why doesn't it go around the back of the neck?

Those were in the Bill Veeck era and were supposed to be a recreation of a bygone uniform, I believe.

Let us not forget the White Sox incarnation right before those glorious red uni's.

This was when the White Sox played home games in Milwaukee.

The second one. Block Detroit with orange and blue.

I'm partial to the 70s-early 80s Oakland A's green and gold outfits. One of Charlie Finley's best moves.

My all-time favorite cap, only worn in 1971...

While I know it would never happen, I want the Nats to wear these on throwback night ...

... That's still my favorite all-time baseball jersey.
