I don't know why it popped in my head this morning, but I started hearing the "1940" chant crowds used to do against the Rangers.

I'm a Ranger fan, but I always liked that taunt -- showed an appreciation for the history of the game, I guess.

Any other good traditional taunts/chants/cheers that rivals use on each other?

It's the only chant that breaks out at random events......weddings, concerts, Red Sox games not vs. the Yankees.

    ***I don't like it.

If I had the wings of a sparrow,
And I had the arse of a crow,
    I'd fly over Ipswich tomorrow,
And shit on the bastards below.

Shit on, shit on, shit on the bastards below, below,
Shit on, shit on, shit on the bastards below.

-- Norwich City fans to their local rival (to the tune of 'My bonny lies over the ocean').

    In your Peterborough slums,
    In your Peterborough slums,
You look in the gutter for something to eat
You find a dead rat and you think it's a treat
    In your Peterborough slums.

-- Cambridge United fans to their local rival.

I'm not sure of what exactly is the best, but I do know that the worst is "You can't do that," clap, clap, clap-clap-clap.

If I were in charge for a day, I would ban that cheer, and sentence anyone who dares disobey me to a life severe nipple torture.

"Scoreboard" is far worse, 1000 times moreso when its the first quarter.

That's all right, that's OK, you're gonna work for us some day.

    Just awesome.

Oh, and "Start the bus! Start the bus!" at any HS game gets a smile out of me.

The junior hockey variation on the last one in a blowout is "Warm up the bus!", very appropriate considering the miserable weather.

The old Rangers' chant of "Potvin Sucks" was a classic. I saw Potvin on an interview once say he heard it at a Knicks game.
