Best Rush song ever?

No, you don't. I might not ever stop.

Bigger problem: Unlike Rush, I dunno if I have one favorite track.

    Squonk
    Firth of Fifth
    Blood on the Rooftops
    Duchess
Home By The Sea/Second Home By The Sea

    That was an easy five.

    The Fountain of Salmacis
    Supper's Ready
    Turn It On Again
    Me and Sarah Jane
    The Lady Lies

Any of the first five I could list as my favorite. And the 10 tracks above come off nine different albums - "Duke" the only repeat with "Turn It On Again" and "Duchess."

Then there's B-sides ... "Evidence of Autumn" does laps around "Misunderstanding" and should have been on "Duke." "Do The Neurotic" should have been on an album - goodness knows "Invisible Touch" needed a little more energy and musicianship to go with "Domino" and "The Brazilian."

I'll stop now ... hope the point is pretty clear. Or should I go into Genesis' solo spinoffs?

I can guess which 15-minute period of the current tour would make you go apeshit.

Good finds with "Witch Hunt," "The Analog Kid" and "Natural Science."

No love for "I Think I'm Going Bald!" or "In The Mood"?

Subdivisions definitely best for me, too. One of the best songs about young suburban ennui.

It's hard to go wrong on just about anything from Farewell to Kings through Signals. I'm a fan, but after that, it starts getting dicey. Though the latest album is damn good.

By the way, from Fark the other day, here's an 11-year-old playing YYZ in her own oddly compelling arrangement:

    Then, for Cosmo:

The Tobes of Hades, lit by flickering torchlight
The netherworld is gathered in the glare
Prince By-Tor takes the cavern to the north light
The sign of Eth is rising in the air.
    By-Tor, knight of darkness,
    Centurion of evil, devil's prince.

    II. Across The Styx

Across the River Styx, out of the lamplight
His nemesis is waiting at the gate
The Snow Dog, ermine glowing in the damp night
    Coal-black eyes shimmering with hate.
    By-Tor and the Snow Dog
Square for battle, let the fray begin...

    III. The Battle

    i) Challenge And Defiance
    ii) 7/4 War Furor
    iii) Aftermath
    iv) Hymn of Triumph

    IV. Epilogue

The battle's over and the dust is clearing
Disciples of the Snow Dog sound the knell
Rejoicing echoes as the dawn is nearing
By-Tor in defeat retreats to Hell
    Snow Dog is victorious
The land of the Overworld is saved again.

I may be the only Rush fan whose favorite song is New World Man.

    "Vital Signs"

  10. "The Pass" and "Nobody's Hero" are pretty darned good. But I can't pick one.

One of their first: Working Man. I've always loved it, and used to love playing it on stage.

    "La Villa Strangiato," especially live.

But in the mid-1980s, when I was a pretty fair high school distance runner, "Marathon" was a brilliant song to warm up to before races. I was ready to kick the shit out of my opponents -- metaphorically speaking -- by the time that song was done.
