    When the Iran crisis was going on, AP had a beat writer named Scherezade Faramarzi (No clue on the spelling). That inspired a phony name I have used a time or two -- Raul Albondigas

    Thomas Merton used a pen name for some of his controversial writings when the Catholic Church silenced him, and out of respect and admiration for Merton and his penchant for shaking up the establishment, I once wrote a letter to the editor using his favorite pseudonym: Marco J. Frisbee.
