    Versatile, your post is contradictory. You're right that you don't rise to the level of presidential politics without being a less-than-accommodating human. So to say that President Jimmy Carter was a very nice man is disingenuous. It's a way for the like-minded you speak of to gloss over just how bad he was. Carter wasn't a bad president because he was a nice guy. He was a bad president because he was a bad president.

    Well, we might not have had Able Archer 83.

    And we might have run moderate budget deficits instead of the nine-digit shortfalls spawned by Reagan.
