Jeter, Manny, Beltre not yet eligible.

Bonds, Clemens, ARod eligible but PED issues.

Gary Sheffield, Lou Whitaker and Edgar Martinez deserve it because of the Barnes induction.
Luis Tiant isn’t eligible but deserves the Baines treatment. He was better as a pitcher thanBaines was as a positionplayer.

    Edgar goes in in August.

I do wonder how the changing dynamics in pitching impacts veterans nominees. There has to be some metric to evaluate stats in relation to the era you are playing in.

Ted Simmons: great hitting catcher who is penalized because he was an allegedly poor defensive player. He wasn’t Johnny Bench, but he wasn’t bad. He was average, but a better fielder than a lot of guys in at other positions including his teammate Lou Brock.

And as noted on the trivia thread, Bill Freehan, who from a “fame” standpoint may have a better case.

    Larry walker.

I think it would be more fun to mention players that should be in that didn’t get enough votes.

I always thought the 84 Tigers featured a bunch of borderline guys
I thought Morris might be the only guy voted in
But even though Trammell was the No. 3 SS in the AL he was still worthy
I think Whitaker will make it now
    Deservedly so

Forget Harold Baines, forget Rabbit Maranville.

The question is not whether the player is better than the *worst* previous HOF selection, but where they would rank among previous HOF selections at their particular position.

(Under that standard, Freehan and Whitaker should be in instantly -- both are clearly superior to the 'median HOFer' at their positions.)

Dave Parker and Dale Murphy are pretty interesting compare-and-contrast cases.

Bonds Clemens and ARod deserve to get in. McGwire too.
    Sosa and Palmeiro, no.

In addition to Sheffield, I like Helton.

Dick Allen is one of the biggest omissions.

Not a player, however, Marvin Miller not being in the hall of fame is just a joke.

I know the numbers don’t say it, but I thought Parker was a more feared hitter than Winfield.
