I think we're seeing how worthless 5,000 yards is.
The Saints broke a record today for the most yards allowed in a season.
Edging the 1981 Baltimore Colts - a team believed to be one of the worst in the history of the league.

Always do. Someone could start an "Is water wet" thread on this board, and eventually a contested debate would somehow evolve from it.

How Rice never won MVP is a mystery to me. Greatest receiver in NFL history.

Oh, yeah, only quarterbacks are eligible.

Should have won it in 1987. Had 23 TD's in 12 games. Elway won it with 19 TD's. Montana also had a better record that year plus 31 TD's. The MVP award was much more a joke back then. Today it at least goes to someone who had a good season.

No defensive player has won the award since Lawrence Taylor in 1986.
I think JJ Watt had a case to make before the team began to founder in the last few weeks.

Of course, James Harrison should have won it.

So should Jack Lambert, Jack Ham, Joe Greene, Mel Blount or about a dozen other Steelers. [/crossthread]

It would be nice if an elite defensive player received the highest accolade in the game after a quarter-century of giving it to quarterbacks, yes.

I think Lawrence Taylor won it once. It's sort of like the Heisman.

I guess it's just harder for one defensive player to dominate a game, but when it happens, more power to them.

I have JJ Watt third on my list, behind Peterson and Peyton Manning.

Ray Lewis in 2000 is the gold standard -- if he didn't win it, nobody will.

Watt had 20 1/2 sacks and 23 tackles for losses, doing all that as a 3-4 defensive lineman.
He has been as dominant as one can be.
    And is revolutionizing his position.
