I didn't say best movie you saw in 2012, because I know a lot of the top movies have just come out or are still coming out...

I've seen Zero Dark Thirty and Django Unchained on back-to-back days and those have to be the best two I've seen from 2012.

    1. Zero Dark Thirty
    2. Django Unchained
    3. The Dark Knight Rises
    4. Argo
    5. Les Miserables
    6. Savages
    7. Silver Linings Playbook
    8. Perks of Being a Wallflower
    9. Skyfall
    10. Beasts of the Southern Wild
    11. End of Watch
    12. Lincoln

Still have not seen: Life of Pi, The Impossible...

    'Dark Knight Rises' was terrible.

It's between 'Life of Pi' and 'Django Unchained,' but there are still too many I haven't seen.

Of the ones I've seen, it's between Life of Pi and Argo. I thought Zero Dark Thirty was really well done, but I didn't love it.

There are so many that I haven't seen because I have an infant right now, but among the best:

    "Killer Joe"
    "The Grey"
    "Brave"
    "Magic Mike"
    "Moonrise Kingdom"
    "The Master"
    "Ruby Sparks"
    "Sound of My Voice"

    Worst:

    "The Hunger Games"
    "Trouble With the Curve"
    "Dark Shadows"
    "The Dark Knight Rises"
    "Prometheus"

I spaced on 'Moonrise Kingdom.' That's the best of what I've seen this year.
'Life of Pi' and 'Django Unchained' would be jockeying for second best.

'Ruby Sparks' was great until the ending ruined what would've been an excellent movie.

    I loved 'Prometheus.'
I didn't care for 'The Grey' at all.

This is every movie I've seen from 2012... I preface this by saying that I have very little say over which movies I see in the theater (usually kid movies)... I did a lot of catching up over the holidays...

    Amazing Spiderman - Loved it
    American Reunion - Surprisingly good
    Arbitrage - Liked it
    Argo - Great
    Avengers - Enjoyed it
Beasts of the Southern Wild - Very good
Bourne Legacy - Liked it, but not as good as others
Butter - A few funny parts, overall meh...
    Brave - Very good.
    Campaign - Pretty funny
    Chronicle - Liked it.
    Contraband - Very mediocre
Dark Knight Rises - Loved it
    Dictator - Meh
    Django Unchained - Loved it.
End of Watch - Predictable ending, otherwise, very, very good.
    Expendables 2 - Enjoyable fluff
    Five year Engagement - Boring
Flight - Not bad, but overrated.
Friends with Kids - Pretty good
    Hunger Games - Enjoyed it
Ice Age 4 - Enjoyable kiddie film
    Jack Reacher - Not bad
Jeff, Who Lives at Home - Boring as hell
Killer Joe - Pretty good... A bit over the top
Les Miserables - Outstanding. I've seen the play several times and despite the glowing reviews I kind of expected to be disappointed. I was not.
Lincoln - Well acted, but a bit long
    Looper - Interesting, not great
    Lorax - Kids liked it
Magic Mike - Better than I thought it would be
Men in Black 3 - Not terrible
Moonrise Kingdom - Overrated, but good
One for the Money - Pretty bad
Pirates: Band of Misfits - Dreadful, even my kids hated it
    Project X - Not bad.
Rise of the Guardians - Thoroughly enjoyable
Rock of Ages - Not as bad as you would think
    Safe House - Surprisingly good
    Savages - Loved it
Silver Linings Playbook - I thought the two leads were outstanding. I agree that Jessica Chastain from Zero Dark Thirty is more deserving of the Oscar than Lawrence, but I still loved Lawrence in this movie. She was the best part of it.
    Skyfall - Loved it
    Take This Waltz - Depressing.
    Ted - Very funny
That's My Boy - Not as bad as I thought it would be.
Think Like a Man - Awful
This is 40 - Depressing, but well done
This Means War - Not terrible
    21 Jump Street - I enjoyed it
Wanderlust - Probably the worst on the list
    Wreck It Ralph - Enjoyable
Zero Dark Thirty - Best of the year so far...

'Amazing Spiderman' = Didn't like it. Not as good as the first one.
    'Arbitrage' = Alright. Nothing special.
    'The Avengers' = Loved it.
    'Bernie' = Surpisingly enjoyable.
'Bourne Legacy' = Nothing special. Not as good as the others in the series.
'Butter' = Had some good moments, but a little to self-consciously quirky for me.
    'Campaign' = funny first half.
'Chronicle' = Got really bored with it halfway through.
    'Contraband' = Completely forgettable.
    'Dark Knight Rises' = Terrible.
    'Django Unchained' = Loved it.
'Hunger Games' = Enjoyed it at the time. Too long. Nothing special, really.
'Jeff, Who Lives at Home' = Meh
'Life of Pi' = Loved it.
'Looper' = Alright. Ending surprised me a little. I have a crush on Emily Blunt.
'Moonrise Kingdom' = Loved it. Best movie I've seen this year.
    'Safe House' = Meh
'21 Jump Street' = Terrible. One funny bit.

'Bernie' and 'Moonrise Kingdom' were my two favorites of the year. 'Lincoln' a close third.

I don't care that Bernie is listed as a 2011 film. No one outside of the LA film festival could see it until spring of 2012 and it was reviewed in 2012.

Words I never thought I would type: Jack Black and Matthew McConaughey together admirably carried a film.

I'll say it again: McConaughey had a hell of a year. Just a downright hell of a year.

    Beasts of the Southern Wild
    Zero Dark Thirty
    Argo

  11. Amazing Spiderman - B thought I was good and fan of Worcester's Dennis Leary
Argo - A perhaps best overall movie I've seen this year
Avengers - A excellent brain candy
Bourne Legacy -B - liked this version very much (though I do hope it is the last)
Dark Knight Rises - C- very high expectations but too long and disjointed. Took suspension of disbelief too far.
Lincoln - B - a little too long and I spent much of the time identifying the actors from where I knew them. A who's who of "that guys".
Men in Black 3 - B+ maybe the best MiB of them all
Skyfall - B would have higher grade but movie seemed like it was 20 minutes too long
Ted - C+ had some funny lines but wouldn't see it again
Wreck It Ralph - solid B (my kids gave it an A and they were the target audience)
Dark Shadows - C- good premise that never delivered. Would have been better as a 15 minute SNL skit
The Iron Lady - C- fucking waste of an afternoon
Seeking a Friend for the End of the World - B- pretty amusing good date flick
Anonymous - B a little long but I recommend this sleeper about the premise that Shakespeare was just a front for the real literary genius.
Bernie - B- if you like David Lynch type docudramas. I may be too kind in my grade

  12. Brad Pitt's movie Killing Them Softly is definitely the worst movie I saw this year
